Prof. Azama received his B.S. in law from Chuo University and went on to earn both a B.S. and M.S. in political science from Utah State University. He has taken additional graduate work toward the doctorate. Mr. Azama has taught for Los Angeles Community Colleges, the U.S. Army Education Centers in Okinawa, the University of California at Santa Barbara, and the University of the Ryukyus, offering courses in areas including Japanese language and culture, American government, and international political relations. He has contributed to various publications, including a full section in an encyclopedia of political parties in Asia and the Pacific published by Greenwood Press. Mr. Azama joined the UMUC faculty in 1988 and has taught in Okinawa and in the online learning program.

Professor Bertram holds an MBA in asset management from Yale School of Management, a JD in intellectual property from Quinnipiac University School of Law, and a BA in biological sciences from Mount Holyoke College. She is admitted to practice law in Connecticut, New York, the US District of Connecticut, and before the United States Patent & Trademark Office. In addition to teaching for the MBA program at UMUC, she is General Counsel for HealthVenture Holdings, Inc., a seed-stage venture capital firm and international digital health incubator. She founded Hawley Legal Resources, LLC, to provide intellectual property portfolio management services to startups. She has previously worked on multiparty technology transfer and clinical trial agreements on behalf of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, and served for four years as a corporate board member of a regional mutual bank with AUM$1B. She has been published on medical and business ethics and emerging technology.
JOHN BRADFORD

Prof. John Bradford holds a Master of Science in biological sciences from Wichita State University, an MBA from the University of Kentucky and a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering. He served 6.5 years on active duty as a commissioned officer in the career fields of environmental engineer and environmental health. He continued his military service in the US Navy Reserve as an environmental health officer at the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He has over 7 years’ experience as a civil service employee with the Department of Defense (DoD) working in the areas of environmental engineering, environmental compliance, environmental policy, master planning, and public health. Prof. Bradford’s previous teaching experience includes general biology distance learning courses for Central Texas College, Pacific Far East Campus (2005 to 2014). Prof. Bradford joined UMUC Asia in the spring of 2016 as an adjunct assistant professor and currently teaches biology.
