Before joining UMUC in 1994, Dr. Berg held many teaching, professional practice and administrative positions, including Psychology Department Chair, tenured Full Professor, state hospital Chief Psychologist, graduate Psychology Program instructor, state prison Psychologist Consultant, Clinical Psychologist in private practice, and SSA Expert Witness. He taught undergraduate and graduate psychology at Washington College (MD) and Hanover College (IN) for many years before joining UMUC’s overseas programs. He’s taught literally hundreds of graduate and undergraduate UMUC courses in Asia, Europe, Middle East and Central Asia, including Afghanistan and Iraq. His UMUC administrative positions span over 15 years and include Senior VP of Overseas Programs, Europe Division Director, Resident Graduate Professor in Okinawa and UK, Asia Division Director, Europe Associate Dean, Europe Director of Downrange Programs, Okinawa Area Director, Europe Director of North Central Germany/Benelux/UK, and UMUC Primary Author for current Department of Defense Asia, Europe and downrange contracts. He’s a licensed clinical psychologist and a professional mediator.

ROBERT GOULD

Prof. Gould holds the rank of Collegiate Professor with UMUC-Asia. He first joined the faculty of UMUC in 1997-1998 at Lajes Field, Azores, Portugal. He teaches undergraduate courses in Accounting, Business Administration, and Economics, and graduate courses in the MBA program. Dr. Gould has served as a member of the UMUC collegiate faculty in Germany for the 2002-2005 academic years, in the United Kingdom for the 2008-2010 academic years, and in Italy and Germany for the 2014-2017 academic years. He was the UMUC-Europe Faculty Peer for ACCT/ECON/FINC for 2007-2010. Dr. Gould holds the B.A. degree from Oberlin College (Ohio), the M.B.A. degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and the Doctor of Management (D.Mgt.) degree from the University of Maryland University College, Adelphi, Maryland. His doctoral dissertation applied management practice to higher education, and is titled "A Stakeholder View of Organizational Adaptation to Technological Change: The Case of U. S. Public Universities, 2003-2012." Dr. Gould has served as the General Manager of the Community Support Association of the American Consulate General, Frankfurt, Germany. He has also directed the USAF Income Tax Preparation Centers at the 35th Fighter Wing, Misawa AB, Japan, and the 423rd Air Base Group, RAF Alconbury, England. Dr. Gould has owned and operated a business consulting firm serving small businesses and non-profit organizations in Northern California. In addition, he served on the staff of the Accounting Department at UMUC's European Headquarters, when it was located in Heidelberg, Germany. Dr. Gould will be teaching in the Asian Division for the first time in the 2017-18 academic year.

SUSAN JONES

Dr. Jones is well-versed in the collegiate field of business education. She attained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, a Masters Business Administration degree in Finance and in Information Systems, and completed her educational endeavors by earning a Doctorate in Business Administration. She plans to earn a Ph.D. in Higher Education in the future. Susan’s work experience involves many years of finance and accounting in industries such as retail, insurance, public accounting, and fitness, health, and wellness. She worked as a Senior Accountant/Financial Analyst at an electronic debit and credit payment corporation. She oversaw the revenue payment accounts systems totaling more than $100 billion, helped to formulate monthly forecasts and budgets, and performed special projects for the Controller and Chief Financial Officer. Susan worked as an entrepreneur as an Independent Fitness Consultant. She acquired contracts with various corporations such as Aerobic Atlanta, Just Wellness, Coca-Cola, YMCA, Bellsouth (now AT&T), Home Depot, Cox Communications, Corporate Sports Unlimited (13 facilities in Atlanta) and other fitness facilities in the surrounding metro Atlanta areas. Susan worked overseas (Guam, Japan, and Korea) as a contractor for higher education; i.e. Chair Liaison for the Masters of Business Administration program. She had the opportunity to work with nationals, active duty and their dependents, as well as various contractors and other expatriates. During Susan’s time overseas, she volunteered her efforts to the Chapel, USO, Girl Scouts Overseas (i.e. board member), DoDEA middle and high school programs, and many other community-wide events in Asia/Pacific. She enjoys fitness (including running 5Ks, 10Ks, and half marathons and fitness competitions), salsa dancing, socializing, traveling, and reading and relaxing on leave days.

Christian Mahoney
CHRISTIAN MAHONEY, PhD

Chris Mahoney has taught courses in English (developmental English, ESL, English and American literature, professional writing [technical writing, business writing, and writing for managers], and writing courses for graduate students), German, Spanish, speech, and philosophy for UMUC Adelphi (stateside), UMUC Europe, and UMUC Asia. He completed a master’s degree in German, a master’s degree in applied linguistics, a master’s degree in Indo-Tibetan Buddhism, and a doctorate (Ph.D.) in comparative literature; in addition, he has completed graduate coursework in management, distance education, philosophy, Pāli, and Chinese Buddhism. The locations where he taught include Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Turkey, Macedonia, Kosovo, Kuwait, Bahrain, Japan, Korea, and Singapore.

JOHN MISCIONE

Prof. Miscione has worked in finance, consulting, has practiced law and has taught Management, Law (including Intellectual Property Law), Economics, Public Speaking and Accounting. He has published research in the area of taxation law and has practiced law in the US federal as well as US state courts. He is interested in the legal issues confronting service men and women. In his leisure time he enjoys photography, music and travel. Professor Miscione holds a B.A. in History from Johns Hopkins University, an M.B.A. in Finance from New York University, and a JD (Business Law) from Rutgers University.

MIKE SHIN

Dr. Mike Shin holds a Ph.D. in international business and marketing from Georgia State University and a BA in political science from Seoul National University. He was born and raised in South Korea and has worked for the Korean government as well as private institutions up until he went on to pursue his doctorate. Dr. Shin is well versed in teaching Global Business Management, Strategic Management and International Marketing. For the past 8 years he has been teaching MBA courses with UMUC stateside.
