DOUGLAS GAINES
Location: Distance Education
Mr. Gaines holds a B.S. in computer studies from University of Maryland University College, taking many of his UMUC courses while stationed in Okinawa. He went on to earn an M.S. in management from Troy State University (Pacific Division). As a member of the United States Air Force, Mr. Gaines served as an Air Force instructor while in Okinawa. He also co-authored two publications: "Reengineering for a QAF: A Look at the Composite Wing of the Future" and "Reengineering for Tomorrow's Air Force: How to Build an Organizational Decision Support System." Mr. Gaines joined the UMUC Asia faculty in 1998, teaching at various locations in Okinawa, and began teaching in the distance education program shortly afterward. He has continued teaching online distance education courses following his relocation to the United States.

DAVID GARRETSON
Location: Korea
Mr. Garretson earned his B.A. in Political Science from McGill University, studied for a year at the London School of Political Science and Economics, and subsequently earned his M.A. and M.A.L.D. in International Relations at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University. During several years of service in the U.S. Department of State he was Deputy Principal Officer at the U.S. Consulate and then at the Embassy in Suva, Fiji; served in the Bureau of Intelligence and Office of External Research; and was a Vice Consul in Thailand, Vietnam, and Niger. Mr. Garretson joined the Asian Division faculty in 1974 and has taught in Taiwan, Thailand, Okinawa, Japan, the Philippines, and Diego Garcia, and for an extended period in Korea.

STEPHEN GARRIGUES
Location: Korea
Dr. Garrigues holds the position of Professor at Kyungpook National University in Daegu, South Korea, where he has been teaching since 1986. He did his BA in Japanese history at Sophia University in Tokyo, and both his MA (Colorado State University) and PhD (Lucknow University, India) are in cultural anthropology. He has been teaching classes in Anthropology, Sociology, and Asian Studies for UMUC in Korea since 1985. Most of his life has been spent in the Asia-Pacific region, including 7 years in Japan, 4 years in India, 6 years in Tonga, and over 25 years in Korea. His research interests are in intercultural communication, comparative semantics, and ethnomusicology. In addition to his academic work, Dr. Garrigues is a passionate photographer.

ALETA GEIB
Location: Guam
Dr. Geib earned her B.S.S.W. in social work and her M.A., also in social work, from The Ohio State University. Her Ph.D. in sociology is from the University of Akron. She has taught at several institutions including The Ohio State University, Marion Technical College, The University of Akron, and the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. A veteran of service in the U.S. Army, Dr. Geib's published research and professional presentations include several studies of women in the military, including female participation in combat, and media representations of women in the military. She joined the Asian Division faculty in 1997 and has taught in Okinawa, Misawa, the Tokyo area and Guam, and in the UMUC distance education program.

MICHAEL GIULIANO
Location: Distance Education
Mr. Giuliano earned a B.S. in health care management from Southern Illinois University and an M.B.A. in management from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management. He has held managerial positions in sales and public facilities and is currently a health care manager and contracting officer for the U.S. Navy. He joined the UMUC Asia faculty in 2001 and has taught in Okinawa and in the distance education program.

B.J. GLEASON
Location: Korea
Mr. Gleason holds a B.S. and M.S. in computer science from New Jersey Institute of Technology and an M.S. in educational leadership from Troy State University. He earned a second B.S. in criminal justice from University of Maryland University College as well as a B.A. in Asian Studies. He took additional graduate work in educational administration at The American University. Mr. Gleason has taught at New Jersey Institute of Technology, Upsala College in New Jersey, and The American University, and has extensive professional consulting experience. He has published extensively on computer topics in a wide range of media, and has developed numerous items of public domain and commercially available software. Since joining the Asian Division faculty in 1995 he has taught in Korea, primarily at Yongsan.

STEPHEN GRADY
Location: Distance Education
Mr. Grady earned a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Chapman University and has a master's from Bowie State University in Administrative Management. Mr. Grady has served in a broad spectrum of IT related jobs in both the military and the private sector including systems analysis, customer service management, and network administration. Prior to his experience with UMUC, Mr. Grady taught for the University if Phoenix. Mr. Grady joined the UMUC faculty in 2000, shortly before retiring from the United States Air Force.

MARK GREER
Location: Distance Education
Mr. Greer received his B.A. in political science from the University of Michigan and his M.A. in political science from Wayne State University. He subsequently earned an M.A. in geography from the University of Wyoming, and has taken additional work in geology and atmospheric science at several institutions. Mr. Greer has taught at Wayne State University, Central Wyoming College, and for more than twenty years at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyoming, teaching in the fields of geography, geology, and political science, and handling a number of administrative responsibilities. The recipient of several teaching excellence awards, he was involved in a variety of service activities on his campus and in the state of Wyoming. Since joining the Asian Division faculty in August 2000 he has taught at numerous locations in Okinawa, Korea, and the Tokyo area, and in the UMUC distance education program.
