MICHAEL DEJONG

| Mr. DeJong holds a B.A. and M.A. from York University in Toronto, Canada. His graduate degree in communication and culture focused primarily on issues involving media framing, political economy, and the construction of objectivity. Mr. DeJong has more than two decades experience as a broadcast journalist. He has worked as TV anchor, reporter, writer, and producer at NHK, Tokyo and at CBC, CTV, and Global Television in Canada. Mr. DeJong has also taught at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario and conducts private media training workshops for corporate clients. | |

| Ms. Hojo-Vanderhyde received her B.A. in French Studies from Seinan Gakuin University and her M.A. in East Asian Studies, with specialization in Japanese Language Pedagogy, from the University of Toronto. She also studied linguistics at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. Ms. Hojo-Vanderhyde taught Seinan Gakuin University, the University of Toronto, McMaster University and North York Heritage School. She also has professional experience as an instructor of English working with both adults and children, and as a translator and interpreter. She joined the UMUC Asia faculty in 2005 and has taught in the Tokyo area and in Sasebo. | |

RICHARD DOWLING

| Mr. Dowling initially taught for UMUC in Asia from 1983 through 1989, rejoining the faculty in 1994. He holds a B.A. in history from Wheeling University and an M.A. in history from Duquesne University, and took additional graduate work in history at the University of Connecticut. Before joining Maryland Mr. Dowling taught at Eastern Connecticut State College and in the Chapman College PACE program aboard U.S. Navy vessels. He also has secondary-level teaching experience. While with the Asian Division he has taught in Guam, Japan, and Australia, and more recently primarily at locations throughout Korea, as well as in the UMUC distance education program. Mr. Dowling is the author of five books: The Youth and Maturity of Humanity: Interpreting Modern, American, and Impending Global History as One Story which is an overview of Modern and Contemporary History published in 2009, The Two Hands Approach to the English Language Vol. I and Vol. II which is a two volume survey of all aspects of the English Language published in 2010, and New Angle of Writing Vol. I and Vol.II which is a two volume one year course in teaching writing published in 2010 and 2011. | |

BUTCH DE LA CRUZ

| Dr. de la Cruz holds a B.S. in biological science and a B.S. in arts medicine from the University of the Philippines, an M.A.T. in biological science from De La Salle University, and a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of the Philippines. He has experience as a hospital administrator, director of a College of Nursing, and as a bio-medical researcher with the Philippine Atomic Energy Commission. He also held a position at the ITT Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers as Director of Human Resource/Training and Development and as a Pre-Opening Coordinator and TQM Director of the Sheraton Towers Southgate in Melbourne Australia. Dr. de la Cruz taught at the University of Southern California, the University of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas Graduate School, Troy State University, and as Associate Dean at the University of La Verne. He joined the UMUC faculty in 1981 and has taught in the Philippines, Japan and Korea, and for an extended period primarily in Guam. | |
