RICHARD ADAMS
Location:
Mr. Adams holds a B.Phil. in philosophy from Heythrop College, a B.S. in psychology from Spring Hill College, an M.S. in psychology, and an M.P.A. in economics from Jacksonville State University. He taught at Spring Hill College and Jacksonville State University before joining the faculty of University of Maryland University College in Europe. While in Europe for more than ten years Mr. Adams taught at numerous locations in Italy, Germany, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Turkey, the Azores, Iceland, Bahrain, Sicily, the United Kingdom, and Kosovo. He also taught in UMUC's program in Montevideo, Uruguay, administered from Europe. Mr. Adams is a veteran of about seven years with the U.S. Army military police, including service in Germany. He joined the UMUC program in Asia in August 2003 and has taught in Misawa and Iwakuni.
ALEXANDRA ALBRECHT

Dr. Albrecht holds a B.A. in Korean language from Keimyung University, a B.S. in sociology from University of Maryland University College, and an M.A. and Ph.D., both in sociology, from the University of Oklahoma. She taught for UMUC in Korea and Okinawa during academic year 1984-85 and from 1990 to 1992, offering courses in Korean language, mathematics, and sociology. She rejoined the faculty in 1996. Dr. Albrecht has additional teaching experience at the University of Oklahoma and at the secondary level. Since 1996 she has taught for UMUC throughout Korea from Pusan to the DMZ, at Misawa and Sasebo in Japan, and in the UMUC Distance Education program.
MARCIA ALLEN

Ms. Marcia Allen received her B.A. in English with a minor in Asian Studies from Colorado State University in Fort Collins. She has taught English composition, literature, and Japanese literature for the University of Maryland University College in the Asia Asian Division She has co-authored an English textbook called Write Into the Future for Japanese high school students as well as created a software product called Marcia Allen's TOEIC Preparation Course. Ms. Allen currently teaches courses in the UMUC distance education program
CHRISTOPHER AMES
Location: Japan
Dr. Ames earned his B.A. in philosophy from Allegheny College and his M.A. in East Asian studies from the University of Pittsburgh. He received his Ph.D. in cultural anthropology from the University of Michigan. Dr. Ames has completed graduate work and certificates in Japanese studies, public administration, managerial economics, and communication, and has completed professional training in a U.S. Government Public Affairs Officer's Course and a Simultaneous Interpretation Course in Okinawa. He has served for several years as Chief of Media Relations with the U.S. Air Force in Okinawa. His publications include articles on Japanese film and on Okinawan history, culture, and education. He has received various fellowships to support his research, including a Fulbright Fellowship for research in Okinawa and has served as a researcher at the Institute for Research in Humanities at Kyoto University. He joined the UMUC Asia faculty in 1999 and has taught courses in Asian studies, history, and sociology all over Okinawa, and more recently primarily in the distance education program. Dr. Ames assumed his current position as the Japan area director in July 2007.
ROBERT ANTHONY
Location: Korea
Robert Anthony, J.D. received his B.S.B.A., with a concentration in economics and labor relations, from California State University at Los Angeles. He earned a J.D. from the University of La Verne and an M.B.A. from Memphis State University, and subsequently completed an M.S.E.L. (M.S. in Environmental Law) from Vermont Law School. He has taught at the College of St. Joseph in Vermont and for approximately ten years at Western Montana College of the University of Montana. Anthony, J.D. has many years of diverse experience in ventures ranging from retail sales to law practice, as well as in management, including his own marketing and management consulting firm. He joined the UMUC faculty in 1998 and has taught at numerous locations in Korea and Okinawa as well as in the distance education program.
KISHO AZAMA
Location: Okinawa
Mr. Azama received his B.S. in law from Chuo University and went on to earn both a B.S. and M.S. in political science from Utah State University. He has taken additional graduate work toward the doctorate. Mr. Azama has taught for Los Angeles Community Colleges, the U.S. Army Education Centers in Okinawa, the University of California at Santa Barbara, and the University of the Ryukyus, offering courses in areas including Japanese language and culture, American government, and international political relations. He has contributed to various publications, including a full section in an encyclopedia of political parties in Asia and the Pacific published by Greenwood Press. Mr. Azama joined the UMUC faculty in 1988 and has taught in Okinawa and in the distance education program.
