RICHARD ADAMS
Mr. Adams holds a B.Phil. in philosophy from Heythrop College, a B.S. in psychology from Spring Hill College, an M.S. in psychology, and an M.P.A. in economics from Jacksonville State University. He taught at Spring Hill College and Jacksonville State University before joining the faculty of University of Maryland University College in Europe. While in Europe for more than ten years Mr. Adams taught at numerous locations in Italy, Germany, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Turkey, the Azores, Iceland, Bahrain, Sicily, the United Kingdom, and Kosovo. He also taught in UMUC's program in Montevideo, Uruguay, administered from Europe. Mr. Adams is a veteran of about seven years with the U.S. Army military police, including service in Germany. He joined the UMUC program in Asia in August 2003 and has taught in Misawa and Iwakuni.

STEVEN AIRD
Dr. Steven Aird took his B.S. in zoology from Montana State University, his M.S. in biology from Northern Arizona University, and his Ph.D. in zoology from Colorado State University. Dr. Aird conducted postdoctoral research in biochemistry at the University of Wyoming. He has served as the associate editor of Western North American Naturalist since 2005 and has taught biology and zoology at the university level for thirteen years. Dr. Aird is especially interested in venomous snakes and is fond of bringing rattlesnakes to class. Dr. Aird has published more than 40 scientific articles and research papers and has presented numerous papers at academic conferences. Dr. Aird joined UMUC Asia in 2009.

ALEXANDRA ALBRECHT
Dr. Albrecht holds a B.A. in Korean language from Keimyung University, a B.S. in sociology from University of Maryland University College, and an M.A. and Ph.D., both in sociology, from the University of Oklahoma. She taught for UMUC in Korea and Okinawa during academic year 1984-85 and from 1990 to 1992, offering courses in Korean language, mathematics, and sociology. She rejoined the faculty in 1996. Dr. Albrecht has additional teaching experience at the University of Oklahoma and at the secondary level. Since 1996 she has taught for UMUC throughout Korea from Pusan to the DMZ, at Misawa and Sasebo in Japan, and in the UMUC Distance Education program.

ROBERT ALBRECHT
Mr. Albrecht holds a B.A. in Asian Studies from University of Maryland University College, an M.P.A. from the University of Oklahoma, and an M.B.A. and J.D. from the University of Hawaii. He is a retired military officer; his last assignment was as a Command and Control officer, responsible for air battle management while flying as a senior weapons director on the E-3 AWACS airplane. He accumulated 7,200 hours of flight time in military aircraft. As a law student, he won several moot court competitions including best oral argument, Federal District Court competition, Honolulu. Mr. Albrecht has taught for UMUC since 1999 at locations throughout Korea and in the UMUC distance education program.

MARCIA ALLEN
Ms. Marcia Allen received her B.A. in English with a minor in Asian Studies from Colorado State University in Fort Collins. She has taught English composition, literature, and Japanese literature for the University of Maryland University College in the Asia Asian Division She has co-authored an English textbook called Write Into the Future for Japanese high school students as well as created a software product called Marcia Allen's TOEIC Preparation Course. Ms. Allen currently teaches courses in the UMUC distance education program

ADNAN ALSEIDI
Dr. Alseidi received two B.S. degrees, in biochemistry-molecular biology and in pharmacology, both from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He earned his M.D. from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine and completed residencies in general surgery at York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania, and at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Alseidi has taught at Pennsylvania State University, York College of Pennsylvania, and the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has published articles and made several professional presentations based on his research. He received awards for his teaching at both Pennsylvania State University and York Hospital. Dr. Alseidi is currently serving as a surgeon at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Camp Lester, Okinawa.

MATTHEW ALTMAN
Matthew Altman earned a B.A. in physics and astronomy from The John Hopkins University, an M.S. in physics from Northwestern University, and a J.D. and M.I.P. in law and intellectual property from the Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, New Hampshire. He taught as a graduate student at Northwestern University, and also held a position as a software training consultant and network database developer with a Chicago firm. He joined the UMUC Asia faculty in 1999 and has taught a variety of Computer Studies courses in Okinawa and in the UMUC Asia Distance Education Program. In addition to his teaching, he is a part-time public interest attorney. In April 2002, he received a faculty development grant from the University System of Maryland to test the feasibility of an Information Technology clinic in Okinawa. He has also worked as a DE course developer. Mr. Altman has also served as the Academic Director for Computer Studies and as Director, Institutional Research for the Asian Division. Mr. Altman currently serves as Assistant Dean.

CHRISTOPHER AMES
Dr. Ames earned his B.A. in philosophy from Allegheny College and his M.A. in East Asian studies from the University of Pittsburgh. He received his Ph.D. in cultural anthropology from the University of Michigan. Dr. Ames has completed graduate work and certificates in Japanese studies, public administration, managerial economics, and communication, and has completed professional training in a U.S. Government Public Affairs Officer's Course and a Simultaneous Interpretation Course in Okinawa. He has served for several years as Chief of Media Relations with the U.S. Air Force in Okinawa. His publications include articles on Japanese film and on Okinawan history, culture, and education. He has received various fellowships to support his research, including a Fulbright Fellowship for research in Okinawa and has served as a researcher at the Institute for Research in Humanities at Kyoto University. He joined the UMUC Asia faculty in 1999 and has taught courses in Asian studies, history, and sociology all over Okinawa, and more recently primarily in the distance education program. Dr. Ames assumed his current position as the Japan area director in July 2007.

ROBERT ANTHONY
Mr. Anthony received his B.S.B.A., with a concentration in economics and labor relations, from California State University at Los Angeles. He earned a J.D. from the University of La Verne and an M.B.A. from Memphis State University, and subsequently completed an M.S.E.L. (M.S. in Environmental Law) from Vermont Law School. He has taught at the College of St. Joseph in Vermont and for approximately ten years at Western Montana College of the University of Montana. Mr. Anthony has many years of diverse experience in ventures ranging from retail sales to law practice, as well as in management, including his own marketing and management consulting firm. He joined the UMUC faculty in 1998 and has taught at numerous locations in Korea and Okinawa as well as in the distance education program.

ANDREW ARMACOST
Mr. Armacost received a B.S. in Biology from Indian University and a M.S. in English Literature, Creative Writing, from the University of Edinburgh. He has served as a United States Naval officer for almost 10 years and currently serves as a Logistics Management Specialist with the U.S. Department of the Navy in Singapore. He has published a literary novel titled The Four Pallbearers (Erica House, 2000) and has written numerous articles for publication. Mr. Armacost joined UMUC Asia in 2008.

PETER ARNOT
Mr. Arnot received a B.S. in secondary education, with specializations in English and social studies, from the University of Montana, and earned his M.Ed. in school counseling from Boston University. He served for many years in the Department of Defense Dependents Schools, teaching at Frankfurt High School in Frankfurt, Germany, and serving as a counselor and teacher leader at The Sullivans School in Yokosuka, Japan. Earlier he taught at the Community College of Micronesia in Majuro, the Marshall Islands, while serving in the U.S. Peace Corps. He also taught at Lodge Grass High School on the Crow Indian Reservation in Montana. During his career with DoDDS, Mr. Arnot had a wide range of administrative responsibilities and participated in a number of professional seminars and workshops. He is a veteran of service in the U.S. Navy. He joined the UMUC faculty in March 2004.

KISHO AZAMA
Mr. Azama received his B.S. in law from Chuo University and went on to earn both a B.S. and M.S. in political science from Utah State University. He has taken additional graduate work toward the doctorate. Mr. Azama has taught for Los Angeles Community Colleges, the U.S. Army Education Centers in Okinawa, the University of California at Santa Barbara, and the University of the Ryukyus, offering courses in areas including Japanese language and culture, American government, and international political relations. He has contributed to various publications, including a full section in an encyclopedia of political parties in Asia and the Pacific published by Greenwood Press. Mr. Azama joined the UMUC faculty in 1988 and has taught in Okinawa and in the distance education program.
