Dr. Rory O'Neil earned his B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. in biology and botany from the University of Texas at Austin. While attending graduate school, he was awarded the Harold C. Bold Award for Teaching Excellence. Dr. O'Neil has nearly twenty years experience teaching at the university level, including biology courses taught at the University of Texas at Austin, Southwest Texas State University, and the University of Houston-Downtown. Dr. O'Neil also served for three years as the curator of the Culture Collection of Algae at the University of Texas at Austin. He has published several scientific articles in academic journals and has presented his work at numerous conferences. Dr. O'Neil's academic interests include phycology (the study of algae), botany, marine biology, and environmental science. No stranger to military life, he was born in West Point, New York, and as a former military dependent, lived in Europe and Asia. Dr. O'Neil joined UMUC Asia in 2009.
